| Bronze, height 26 inches ( exclusive of 2-part marble base which brings the total height to 52 inches), signed (impressed) "Weinberg '51" An outstanding focal point for either an interior space or outdoor garden. Weinberg was the youngest recipient of the Prix de Rome (1951-53) which enabled him to study in Italy for 2 years. Upon his return, he worked under Joseph Albers at Yale, but eventually found the atmosphere uncongenial and returned to Italy for another 11 years. Returning once again to this country, he held a number of academic positions, finally settling down as Professor of Sculpture at Boston University. He died in 1991 at age 63. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Wadsworth Athenaeum. The work offered here is an important example. The catalogues for his one-man show at the Grace Borgenicht Gallery, 1986 and his 1993 retrospective at Boston University will accompany the piece.
