| Oil on panel, 12 x 17.25 inches, 18 x 23 inches framed, signed "Will Malbon" lower left. This c. 1840 canine portrait deserves comparison with the earlier work of George Stubbs and with the later work of Edwin Landseer. The detail is anatomically sound and the expression of personality is pronounced. Little is known of Malbon, descended from a Norman/English family of the Midlands.
