Rich, almost luxuriant chawan by rising star, Tsukamoto Haruhiko (b. 1959). This lush and evocative Oribe chawan features an every changing landscape and kaleidoscope of textures and color over the well carved, faceted surface. From light and pale tones of green and blue-green, to thick pools of a rich brown-green pool of glaze in the mikomi, this chawan has something at every angle and turn of the chawan. The innovative form, landscape and cut foot are all trademark characteristics of the potter Tsukamoto Haruhiko and are a result of his decades of study and interest in clay. This chawan measures 13.5 x 9.2 cm and is in perfect condition and complete with its original signed box. This chawan was part of an exhibit at Mitsukoshi in 2009 or 2010 and as such is an exhibition grade chawan.

Tsukamoto Haruhiko is the first potter from his family and even during his school days showed an interest in clay before studying with Nonaka Shunsei and then Asai Reiji. He struck out on his own in 1985 and ever since he has been a popular and rising star potter have many solo shows as well as shows with other raising talents, Kato Yasukage XIV and Kato Takahiko. Tsukamoto is widely exhibited in Japan and internationally and has been well published in both catalogues and books also in Japan and internationally. he has won a number of awards including the Grand Prix (1996) at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibit. Because of his popularity, his shows show out in record time and his prices continue to go up and up.
