Two well carved equestrian African sculptures from tropical hardwood-each with male and female riders on donkey or horse-there is a difference in hair styling-the one wearing a stylized poney tale may be older-surface shows wear in both sculptures-- foot on one rider reglued--tribe is West African Baule tribe--ca 1930s or earlier--from private collection-both about the same size-11 inches wide 18.5 inches high

Very rare tropical wood 18thc Spanish Colonial wood carvings of Mary and Joseph attributed to famous Ecuadorian listed carver 1731-1773 Bernardo Legarda-each have glass or flint eyes-losses-pieces have discolored varnish if removed would produce some original colors and gilt-finely carved-probably part of creche scene as figures kneeling--from local Puerto Rican collection brought from Quito, Ecuador in the 1940s-Virgin is 9 inches high-5 inches wide--Joseph is 8.5 inches high and 4.5 inches wide
