matched pair of French brass vases made from German 105 mm artillery casings-bottom has German arsenal name and is dated 1918--these are examples of what is known as shell art--use of artillery shell components to make decorative items-have even seen defused projectiles converted into lamps--most of this work was done after WWI-the most decorative pieces done in France-these two pieces have been intensely worked with hammered and engraved designs-each have an incised panel in French which commemorates WWI with dates--20 inches high--5.25 inches diameter-no condition problems--top edges irregular where projectile was launched--but got to expect that--this is the real thing--a very decorative historical object
