Rare large pair of African carved tropical hardwood dance masks-surface untouched-some purple blue polychrome--probably male and female-note difference of five pips on one and six on the other each 46 inches high-20 inches wide and 5 inches deep-from private collector-Nigerian tribe, but misplaced tribe name-46 inches high-20 inches wide and 5 inches deep-about 75 years old-minor wear-no condition problems-stable, heavy and dramatic

this mask composed of carved wood, vegetable fibers and a fang is from the We tribe of the Ivory Coast--it was used enforce discipline in the tribe and is composed of representations from a monkey , leopard and a crocodile-tooth at top is from crocodile,facial features are monkey and pods on side represent leopards teeth--there is dark straight animal hair on face of unknown origin--fierce looking mask-made in last quarter 20thc--not easily found--20 inches tall-17 wide-no condition problems
