More than fifty years ago, as University students, we started collecting fine art and antiques. When subsequently we moved to Manhattan it offered ten years of an unique exposure to its museums, its numerous art and other collecting related galleries, its auction houses and their changing exhibitions and its universities where we took courses in the areas of our collecting interests; fine textiles, Americana, American paintings and Pre-Columbian art and by selectively collecting in these areas. One of us worked as a volunteer in the 1970s in the Annex of the American Indian Museum in the Bronx inventorying the huge collection of American Indian material in preparation for recording it on the computer.
After years of cultivating our right brain we opened in 1978 our first shop in Illinois selling initiallly mostly fine glass by Tiffany and Steuben and 19th century American quilts and attending auctions and visiting shops in New York, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. After taking two college semesters of GIA classes we added estate jewelry.
To encourage understanding and interest in collecting and recognizing quality in this field we started a local antique study group that is still active today. Upon retirement we moved back east, first to Long Island with its ready access to NYC markets, became members of the Long Islalnd Antique Dealers Association and did shows in the East End and subsequently settled in Stuart, Florida where we operated a shop from 1990 to 2007.
