American Contemporary Ceramics

$2,500.00

Willi’s technical as well as his creative skills are evident in this generously proportioned large jar. The form is decorated with his signature swirls of glaze using both from creek clay and cornstalk ash glazes that create a colorful abstract. The jar has one side of glossy color, the result of ash settling on the side facing the mouth of the kiln during firing; the other sides are matte finished. Four strong handles complement the well-considered lip. Colors of red and yellow ochre as well as ...click for details

$900.00

Besides his abstract extruded forms, Malcolm creates exquisite pieces that relate to more traditional ceramic forms. This vase was wheel-thrown in two pieces and joined together, the resulting seam easily felt on the interior of the vase. The temoku glaze is a classic combination of deep black and brown with deep red brush strokes breaking through. Signed by the artist. 15.25h x 12.5” diameter (38.7 x 31.6cm)

Jeff’s mastery of traditional forms is displayed in this massive and generously proportioned jar. The surface of this piece has been beautifully articulated by the anagama firing and the result is that each side exposes a new and interesting viewpoint. The coloring and natural ash glaze runs add movement over a very tactile surface. This a unique piece of sculptural work. Signed by the artist. 18h x 23” diameter (45.7 x 58.4cm)

$1,200.00

When Malcolm works to create his extruded forms there are many pieces of clay that have been trimmed from other works. Malcolm’s process allows him to recognize the new creative possibilities for these available sections taken from forms he is creating. This piece, created from pieces trimmed from other forms was placed in the firebox during firing. The resulting sculpture shows deep brown colors and has ash deposits that have started to run. This piece can be positioned in different orientation ...click for details

$2,200.00

This is another of Peter’s flask forms and shows further variation on his approach to creativity with this simple but powerful form. The front and back have been scored and decorated with a freely articulated pattern of diamonds and stars. The pattern unifies the interaction between the clay body and the natural ash glaze in blue and white. 14.5h x 8.5w x 7.25”d (36.8 x 21.6 x 18.4cm)

American Contemporary Ceramics

$2,500.00

Paul’s sculptural interests are obvious by the way that he refers to this piece. While it may seem to be simply a beautiful vase form it is composed of parts that would be at home in any number of traditional forms such as the base that could have come from a Bizen mizusashi. There is a lot of wit and awareness in Paul’s work and this form is integrated with beautiful anagama firing, producing color effects along its faceted sides. Signed by the artist. 13.5h x 10” diameter (34.3 X 25.4cm)

In this covered box Tim exploits the textural as well as color variations that dance over the surface of this piece. These effects are the result of working with and firing a local unrefined clay body. When the top is removed, the brilliant orange clay offers another variation on the theme. 6h x 9w x 7.25”d (15.2 x 22.9 x 18.4cm)

American Contemporary Ceramics

$450.00

Like his large plate, this smaller version combines Willi’s cornstalk ash glaze with creek clay glazed lip running to the center. The glazes have a very fine and detailed texture reminiscent of Chinese rabbit’s fur glaze. The overall effect is very meditative as the eye is drawn to the pale blue center of focus. With artist’s stamp. 12.75 diameter x 2.25”h (31.3 x 5.7cm)

Jeff believes a strong form is the essential starting point for his creative work and this large bucket shows its importance. While a Shino glaze might enhance any piece, it comes alive when given the ample surfaces of this form. The classic interactions of pinks, white and black are all here, but they gain from their application to this forceful form. Signed by the artist. 9.5h x 12” diameter (24.1 x 30.4cm)

Another of the many forms in which Peter finds aesthetic possibilities is this thrown, carved and altered vase. I’ve watched him make these and only a few become worthy of firing due to the difficulty of stressing the form without destroying it. This piece is glazed so that it crawls when fired producing a tactile and visually engaging surface. Signed by the artist. 8.5h x 7.5” diameter (21.6 x 19cm)
