Willi’s creative work is profoundly influenced by the environment around him and by his deep belief in the value of the local materials he uses. His aesthetic approach is the result of integrating his own response to these materials and their response to his creative impulse. The soft rolling hills of Pennsylvania and the swaying bamboo and grasses near the kiln have all been sources of material and inspiration. This plate has cornstalk ash glaze and creek clay glaze that combine with natural ash from a noborigama firing to produce a deep visual space. With artist’s stamp. 17.5 diameter x 2.75”h (44.5 x 7cm)
