In Paul’s work, the sculptural qualities of his forms dominate whether he is starting with traditional forms, creating monumental outdoor pieces or exercising his wit on everyday mundane objects. This auger with square hole falls into the latter category. It is an otherwise ordinary object that has been transformed by his vision into a rich visual form that controls the space around it. The form is not machine tool precise and appears to be discovered rather than made. Green, brown and black glaze interact over a textured surface, this piece was fired in a gas kiln at high temperatures. 18.5w x 14” diameter (47 x 35.6cm)
