DESCRIPTION: A large Chinese famille rose export figure of the god of longevity, Shou Lao. Here he is depicted in the traditional manner as an old man with a long white beard and a high, bald forehead holding his gnarled staff in one hand and the peach of immortality in the other, also a symbol of longevity. On his yellow robe appears multiples of the Chinese character, “Ji” meaning good luck. The maker’s mark is found on the base. DESCRIPTION: A colorful pair of Chinese porcelain famille rose export figures, both standing on a rock outcropping with splashing waves, the female with one arm raised and the male with a long, black beard and hat. Painted in turquoise, pinks and greens, their costumes are a riot of color and patterns. Both are stamped with an impressed “China” on their bases, dating them to approximately 1900. Excellent condition with no chips or repairs. DIMENSIONS: Each 7” high (17.8 cm).
