Hand Woven Laotian Silk and Cotton Textile, Natural Dye

DESCRIPTION: This beautiful textile was hand woven in the “Khet” process in which the warp yarns are cotton thread and the weft yarns are raw silk. Jok weaving is very time consuming and is becoming quite scarce today as Laotian weavers move to the city to find more profitable employment. The design is executed in four rows of dynamic black and white repeating geometric patterns with accents of reds and greens. This textile would have originally been worn as a skirt wrap, and would be gorgeous and fashionable serving that same function today. It would also make a beautiful wall hanging or Fall shawl gathered around the shoulders. This textile is 30 to 40 years old and is in excellent condition. DIMENSIONS: 31” wide x 62” long.
