Antique Chinese Hat Stand with Scholar and Boys, Qing
DESCRIPTION: A beautifully hand painted antique hat stand with a scene of a scholar and two boys in a garden setting, painted with enamels in a famille rose palette. Here the group enjoys a spring day with the scholar and one of the boys pointing toward a bird in the sky. A short inscription appears under the bird. Traditionally used for aerating headwear, hat (or wig) stands were usually made of porcelain and fashioned in tall cylindrical or hexagonal shapes. This one is 19th to early 20th century in very good condition; no chips, cracks or restorations. DIMENSIONS: 11 high (28 cm) x 4 diameter (12 cm).
