| DESCRIPTION: An appealing and well carved Japanese okimono of six monkeys standing with splayed legs and holding high above them two additional reclining monkeys. One of the reclined monkeys is eating fruit while looking warily at the other, who feigns devotion in order to get a bite for himself. The detail on this carving is quite good as evidenced by the finely delineated fur, and the tiny ears and hands that are perfectly carved. The base is signed and decorated with a double leaf mark. Meiji Period (1886 – 1912), and in good condition with minor hairlines that have been sealed. DIMENSIONS: 3 ½” high (9 cm) x 2” wide (5 cm). | |||||||||||||||
