A large terracotta mold for a horse and rider figure, Hellenistic, 3rd - 1st Century BC. The mold is not complete, but the head and neck of the horse is present as well as parts of the rider. Some earthen encrustation. 7" x 7" (17.8 x 17.8 cm). Ex Illinois collection. Ancient Greek molds for terracotta figures are very tough to come by and this is a very nice example! A nice group of 3 Greek terracotta heads, 4th – 1st Century BC, including a nice head of a lady, H: 1 7/8” (4.9 cm), a head of a bull, H: 1 3/4” (4.4 cm), and the bust of a woman, H: 2 1/4” (5.7 cm). All three mounted on a base, the head of a lady with an antique collection label on the back. A nice trio! Ex old English collection.
A huge molded terracotta cow or bull, Ptolemaic Egypt, c. 3rd – 2nd Century BC. Intact with some weathering and a 19th Century collection label on front of base reading “Greco-Egyptian”. L: 6 1/8” (15.5 cm). Ex old English collection.
A molded Greek terracotta depicting a seated man, wife and child, c.4th – 3rd Century BC. Somewhat weathered, the couple sits on a wide seat, the child perched on the woman’s lap. 19th Century collection label on front of base reading “Greco-Egyptian”. H: 6 1/8” (15.5 cm). Ex old English collection.
A large and beautiful Hellenistic terracotta figure of a woman, c. 1st Century BC, perhaps Venus, resting against a herm. She is wrapped in a voluminous gown and wears a rolled diadem on her head. On the lower portion of the backside is the signature of the maker in Greek, “ΠAPMENI…”, incised into the clay. H: 12 7/8” (32.9 cm). Restored from just a few large pieces, much of the white dressing remains and traces of red paint on the gown. A large and impressive piece! Ex old English collect ...click for details
