A Villanovan bronze lid or applique with stylized bird heads, c. 8th Century BC. The three birds are similar, each having a long curved beak, and a sinuous neck that curves down to the rectangular base which sits above a pair of flanges. H: 1 5/8" (4.2 cm). Some minor corrosion to the edges of the disk. Mounted on a custom base. Ex Dr. Gilles Collection, Germany, acquired during the 1950’s & 60’s.

A Roman bronze votive of an eagle, c. 2nd - 3rd Century AD, standing upon the head of a stag, which in turn rests upon a tall stepped base. The figure is nicely detailed, the wings crossed behind. H: 3 5/8" (9.2 cm). Very attractive with an even patination, one of the stags horns is missing. Ex Oregon private collection.

Group includes 8 rings, two of iron, several woven sections of bronze links, one still embedded in the excavated matrix, a small woven child’s bracelet, and a heavy bronze wire linked suspension chain. A lot of 8 bronze & iron fibulae. Lot includes a rare Italic plate brooch, c. 10th - 8th Century BC (Hattatt (1987), no. 1353), 4 other bronze Italic types, c. 8th - 5th Century BC (Hattatt (1987), no. 198-9), a pair of Aucissa types from the 1st Century AD, one in iron, and last a bronze fibula with iron pin from eastern Europe. Largest measures 3 3/8" (8.6 cm). Some without pins but a nice mixed group, the first type very rarely offered! Ex Los Angeles private collection.

Lot includes a stylus with nicely incised handle, a probe with angled end and incised decoration, and four needle with small rectangular hole for threading. Also included is a Luristan clothes pin, late 2nd Millennium BC, with terminal in the form of a capped globe. Largest measures 7 1/4" (18.5 cm). Ex Los Angeles private collection.

The first is the end of a steelyard scale with suspension loop and three hooks, L: 8 1/2" (21.6 cm); the second a bronze rod with 7 ridges, part of some tool or implement, L: 7 3/4" (19.5 cm). Both with old collection labels indicating the provenance as Cyrene, North Africa (Libya). Ex Dr. Gilles Collection, Germany, acquired during the 1950’s & 60’s.
