A nice Roman terracotta mold of winged Erote, Roman, 1st - 2nd Century AD. This is the upper part of perhaps a two part mold, a large alpha incised into the outside. The frontal portion of the figure is featured in the mold with a large circular area around the feet. Intact with deposits. L: 3 1/8" (7.9 cm). Ex Illinois collection, acquired in the 1950’s.
A choice carnelian intaglio depicting Cupid playing with a frisking kid, Roman, 1st - 2nd Century AD, the details well cut in fine style. A beautiful ring stone with an excellent polish after all these years. Few minor edge nicks. 15 x 13mm. Found in Britain. Ex Los Angeles private collection.
A bronze ring with orange glass intaglio depicting a theatre mask, Roman, c. 1st Century BC, with nice detail. The glass ring stone is still set tight within its original ring. Some light pitting and crack through the upper right corner. The bronze ring well preserved with a nice brown patina. Ring size roughly 9 1/2. Stone measures 15 x 12mm. A lot of 2 fragments of Roman wall painting and a section of mosaic flooring, c. 1st Century AD. The two section of stucco with the original painted surfaces in deep reddish purple, red and golden yellow. The mosaic floor section with black tesserae within a grey matrix. A fragment of stucco frieze with raised floral pattern, Roman, c. 1st - 2nd Century AD, a rectangular ledge above. The bottom of the floral frieze is rounded with a V-shaped groove bellow followed by a ridge with a rounded profile with dentiles beneath. 8 1/4" x 7 3/8" x 2 3/4" (20.9 x 18.8 x 7 cm). Remains of dressing and earthen deposits. Ex Dr. Gilles Collection, Germany, acquired during the 1950’s & 60’s.
A detailed terracotta horse head, Roman, 4th - 5th Century AD, molded in naturalistic style with large eyes and flowing mane. A groove runs along the central portion where the molds lines would have been, a small vent hole on the neck, remains of a tab at back. Intact, traces of white dressing and some age deposits. A Roman terracotta figure of a lady, c. 3rd Century AD, veiled, wearing a long gown, her hands grasping the voluminous folds. She wears a serene expression, her hair styled back in ridges, her necklace just visible above the top of her gown. H: 6 1/2" (16.4 cm). Small area of 19th century restoration on the back, probably incorporating the air vent. Nice style and detail. Ex old English private collection.
