| Ancient Egypt. A seated bronze Ibis, Ptolemaic Period, c. 305 - 30 BC, with large feet, the body with incised tail feathers. The Ibis is sacred to the god Thoth and bronzes such as these commonly adorned coffins, mostly of wood, which held the mummies of the bird.
