Triang Tudor Dollhouse
Late in the 1920s up until about 1950 Tri-ang, earlier Lines Brothers Ltd., made the stylish Stockbroker's Tudor dollhouses which captured the essence of English architectural fashion then and now. This dollhouse is not actually one of these houses but a close match. It is an early model of the house #62 which was made from the 1930s into the 1950s. The base is painted green and measures 26 3/4" x 10 3/4". There is a container and metal switch for batteries under it so that lights can be installed, but the house is not, and never was, wired for lighting. Without the chimneys the house is 16 1/2 inches high, with them approximately 18 3/4 inches. The roof appears as thatch. There are four rooms all with original floor and wall papers - 7 3/4 inches in depth. The room on the bottom right is only 7 3/4 inches wide while the other three extend further to the right. The rooms on the ground floor are 5 1/4 inches high, on the second floor 4 3/4 inches. Behind the front door, which is not attached and most probably not original, there are stairs. One of the upstairs windows is a replacement (see picture) and does not have a lace curtain as the other windows, except those over the garage, do. All of the panes are in the windows and only one window has two slightly damaged panes. The garage has its original doors and hinges as well as its brick paper floor. Incidentally, the inside of one door has a penciled letter from a child inviting a friend to tea. All in all the house is in lovely condition for display and just waiting to be filled with furniture and accessories to give it that cozy English country style look. There are some wood worm holes in the wood but no activity. Circa 1940s.
