| Although this piece is not marked with the usual Sarreguemines marks, it is unmistakably a piece of French majolica from this renowned manufacturer. This art nouveau cheese dome was certainly designed to be used with the ever so popular fruit plates. It was for the cheese to be served with fruit at the end of a meal. The dome, without the plate but with stem, is approximately 3 ½ inches high. The stem, as can be seen on the pictures, was broken off and glued into place. It is an old but not professional repair. The plate is a bit over 8 inches in diameter. There are no other chips, cracks or fleabites, but there is normal crazing for a piece of this vintage -- circa 1910. | |||||||||
