| A fine quality black lacquer mauchline ware lozenge shaped lidded box, measuring 5-1/8 by 3-7/8 inches and 2-3/8 inches high. The lid is decorated with an oval shaped bouquet of flowers, bordered by a wavy gold line. The box is lined with red moire paper that is accented with braid. Like most of these 19thc boxes part of the soft metal clasp has broken off but the box can be opened, as seen. Made in Scotland circa 1880 and influenced by Japanese lacquer ware that was available in Europe at that time, black lacquer mauchline is made of wood with a lacquer finish. | ||
