| Here is a well and tree platter made in England circa 1840 by Copeland and Garrett, a manufacturer associated with Spode at times. This is a meat platter: the channels, called tree, allow juices to drain into the well. The platter is in excellent condition with wear from usage, mostly on the reverse and slight buffering around the rim, but no chips, cracks or repairs. It is large and heavy and the uneven rim indicates that it was difficult to fire in the kiln and buckled slightly. The cobalt, rust and gilt decorations are still vibrant. Measurements are 21 inches in length, 15-1/4 inches in height, and 3-1/4 inches in depth. | ||
