| Beautifully colorful piece by acclaimed enamelist and teacher, Edward Winter (American, 1908-1976) depicts Pierrot-style figures dancing. Enamel on steel, it is plywood-backed & measures 33" x 27" with the plywood backing extending about 1/4" all around. In vibrnt colors of black,lavender, lime green, & gold, the piece is in excellent original condition. Signed "Winter" in lower right corner. Born in Pasadena, CA in 1908, Edward Winter moved with his family to Cleveland in 1911, later studying at the Cleveland School of Art. After graduating in 1931, Winter's teacher encouraged him to go to Vienna where he studied enameling, metalwork, & jewelry with prominent designer, Josef Hoffmann & ceramics with the well-known ceramist & designer, Michael Powolny. Winter's works are currently part of the exhibition & book, "Painting with Fire, Masters of Enameling in America, 1930-1980". | |||||||
