ISLAMIC PERFUME SPRINKLER FLASK, 11TH-14TH CENTURY AD
Culture: Islamic. Date: 11th - 14th Century A.D. Material: Glass. Condition: Intact, slightly broken off from rim. Provenance: Ex: American private collection. Measurements: 5 inches high (12.5 cms). Of blue-teel colored glass. A pretty example of a popular class of Islamic perfume bottles. It has an ovoid body with an indented bottom. The thin neck flares out at the base and tapers inward allowing small amounts of liquid to be dispensed. Even though the tip is broken off, still a very elegant example with abundant weathering and iridescence. Cf: Newark nos. 217-218, p. 163; Lucerne, no. 583; Lot 14, Sotheby's New York Antiquities Auction, 25 June 1992. Our vast inventory of ancient art includes one of the finest and most comprehensive ancient glass collections ever assembled; it includes nearly every variety of pre-Roman, Roman, and Eastern Mediterranean ancient glass. If you have any specific inquiries, please let us know.
