EGYPTIAN WOOD SARCOPHAGUS LID, 1ST CENTURY BC
Culture: Egyptian. Date: 945 - 715 BC (Third Intermediate Period, Dynasty 24th - 22nd). Material: Wood. Condition: Intact, very lower part broken off, with some restoration on wig and face. Provenance: Swiss Private collection, 1980, European Private collection, 1983. Measurements: 47" x 12.4" (119.4 x 31.5 cms). A Romano Egyptian painted wood sarcophagus lid. Wearing a wig with a black scarab above the forehead and a broad pectoral over the chest. Below is a vertical column of hieroglyphics that states that an offering is given by Anubis. Accompanied by expertise from Dr. Manfred Weber, Cologne University.
