| Culture: Near Eastern. Date: 2nd Century AD. Origin: Palmyrene. Material: Limestone. Provenance: EX: Sotheby's New York Antiquities Auction, June 2011; Private collection early 1970'S. Condition: Intact, superb, mounted on a custom base stand.. Measurements: 19 x 17 1/2 inches, (48.3 x 44.4 cm.). Carved in high relief with two brothers joining hands, one holding a cluster of grapes, and wearing a himation with beaded hem along the collar, the other holding a bird against his chest and wearing chiton, himation, and bejeweled conical cap with pendant over forehead, four lines of Palmyrene inscription engraved between them translating: "Alas!
