| Culture: Roman. Date: 1st - 2nd Century A.D. Material Marble. Condition: Intact, mounted on a custom base stand. Provenance: Ex: European private collection from the 1980's. Measurements: H. 6 1/4 in. (15.9 cm,). This head belongs to Aphrodite (Venus), the goddes of love and beauty. The wavy hair centrally-parted, and the elaborate curls drawn back into a loose chignon, the frontal tresses swept into a topknot, the eyes set beneath a softly curving brow line, the lips slightly pursed. This head belongs to Aphrodite de Medici of the 1st Century B.C. A statue of this type now in Uffizi museum, Florence, Italy. Cf: The Sculpture of the Hellenistic Age, M.
