Antique Japanese koro, or incense burner, fashioned in likeness of a shi shi, or foo dog. Meiji-Period (c.1900), Bizen earthenware. Bizen ceramics, or yaki, is unglazed, and has a distinctive bronzed patina that results from the natural wood-fired kilns, which have operated continuously for more than four centuries.
