Antique Japanese sectional kitchen tansu chest, or mizuya dansu. Meiji-Period (c.1890), 61 1/4 inches tall, 46" wide and 17" deep (bottom section, 28" tall; top section, 31 1/4"). Thoroughly restored, good to excellent overall condition, with beautiful patina. Upper door panels and drawer fronts accented with beautifully grained keyaki hardwood. Beautifully restored antique Japanese tansu glass display cabinet. This chest dates to the mid Meiji-Period (c.1880) and has been thoroughly cleaned and waxed with a warm reddish brown beeswax to restore the original luster to the wood. Constructed entirely of finely grained hinoki and sugi, subspecies of cypress indigenous to Japan, this tansu features fine craftsmanship and mortise and tenon joinery. Meiji-Period (c. 1900) Japanese merchant tansu chest, or choba-dansu. This tansu is finely crafted from hinoki and sugi, subspecies of cypress indigenous to Japan, and has been thoroughly cleaned and waxed to restore the lustrous patina. Vintage koto, a a traditional Japanese stringed instrument. Koto are hollow body, and fashioned from beautifully grained kiri, or paulownia wood, prized among Japanese craftsmen for its strength and workability. This instrument measures 75 1/2 inches long, and has 13 strings which stretch across movable bridges.
