Antique Japanese koro, or incense burner, fashioned in likeness of a shi shi, or foo dog. Meiji-Period (c.1900), Bizen earthenware. Bizen ceramics, or yaki, is unglazed, and has a distinctive bronzed patina that results from the natural wood-fired kilns, which have operated continuously for more than four centuries. Koro measures approximately 3 1/2" tall, 2 1/2" by 3" wide. Excellent original condition, with beautiful bronze-like patina. Artist's signature mark on bottom near tail.
Shipping within the continental United States is included in the purchase price. International customers please contact me for a shipping quote. Local pickup at our Oxnard, California showroom is always welcome. |
