Small vintage Japanese sudare, traditional bamboo and silk window shade. Sudare are commonly used from spring to autumn to shade sunlight while allowing free flow of air, and are easily rolled up and held with decorative loops. They are crafted from thin bamboo slats, with stitched silk borders. Taisho-Period (c.1920). Poor to fair condition; bamboo slats show usual light wear and tear, silk border is badly frayed in many places, and likely needs to be replaced. Shade measures 10 1/2 inches tall by 37 1/2 inches wide.
