The Art and Orchid Gallery's old snuff bottle is a brown to brownish-orange color. It exhibits deep relief carvings of gourds hanging from intricate leafy vines. The relief work is polished to stand out above the mat brown ground. There is a matching amber top but no spoon. Early Chinese snuff bottles of the 17th Century were carved of amber as well as ivory, cinnabar and jade.[6A] By the 18th Century, the Chinese carved glass, porcelain, other hard stones and even metals to make the bottles ...click for details

The holes for the himo are on the bottom. It has a small inclusion (twig) in the left leg. The monkey has a small p ...click for details

The Art and Orchid Gallery purchased this carabao netsuke from a dealer from Bali, Indonesia claiming its origin as Bali. It is more likely of Chinese origin for collectors. Also, based on the hundreds of Japanese netsuke that we can reference, this piece does not have the character or workmanship to be of, or for, the Japanese market.[120B, 197C, 25D, 216C] By the beginning of the Meiji Era, the Japanese in commerce with foreign countries adopted the Western-style, smoked cigarettes and abandon ...click for details

This exotic turquoise and coral jeweled hand wrought brass hinged sacred container was probably a Tibetan rosary box.[117AA] The top is brass filigree rope cartouche that surrounds floral and a central inlaid stone figure. The Art and Orchid Gallery's tour de force jeweled box has polished coral rice-size stones and polished turquoise round stones inlaid in brass twisted wire and rope mounts surrounding the outside of the hinged heart-shaped cover.
