The Art and Orchid Gallery's old snuff bottle is a brown to brownish-orange color. It exhibits deep relief carvings of gourds hanging from intricate leafy vines. The relief work is polished to stand out above the mat brown ground. There is a matching amber top but no spoon. The Art and Orchid Gallery purchased this piece of carved amber netsuke (because of the himo cord holes [120A]) from a Bali dealer with claimed Bali origin. As we have explained and referenced in our 507AOG, this amber netsuke piece we believe is a Chinese carving made for collectors, not Japanese.[507AOG] The carving is a siting monkey with a branch of fruit over its shoulder.
