Antique Voigt Brothers Porcelain Bowl with Putti
The Art and Orchid Gallery's antique bowl is a floral encrusted work of Decorative Art made of porcelain in Sitzendorf in the Meissen style.[149A, 39B] This ornamental bowl, or basket, has the blue under glaze crossed lines of the Voigt Brothers used between 1884-1896 in Sitzendorf, Thuringia, Germany, known for their decorative porcelain work of the Meissen style.[7C, 59D, 50E] Our decorative art piece is covered with pastel glazed rose vines, leaves and flowers from its foot to the pinched rim. Two winged putti sit on the edge of the bowl collecting flowers.[60F] The white interior of the bowl displays a wild flower painting. There are some characteristics of the Art Nouveau style (e.g. used of floral curved appliques) but its symmetry and general Dresden-type gives the art work an earlier 19th Century look.[39G] It is not surprising that the porcelain covered with applied florals and figures has been restored to keep its suitable late 19th Century appearance. It not only looks very good but it still has a good porcelain ring when struck and the hardness is 7 on Mohs scale. There is some missing gilding and yellowing on the bowl's interior. References available upon request. Size: ~ 6 3/4" x 8 3/4" x 8 1/2"; Weight: ~ 1269 grams;
