| “Flirtation” Watercolor on paper 11” x 15” view size \ 26 1/8” x 30 1/8” framed Aureli was a native of Rome, Italy. He became most famous for his watercolors depicting scenes of courtship and flirtation between Victorian era subjects in formal dress within opulent interiors . Aureli is an extensively listed artist appearing in Mallet, Davenports and Art Price to name a few. The well executed of these compositions, such as this one, have commanded thousands of dollars at auction. In 1999 his watercolor “Idle Hours in the Harem” went for $18,000 at Sotheby’s N.Y. and his pieces have risen to 5 figures in price at auction on many occasions.
