Don't usually find aryballoi as big as this one! From ancient Rome, Ca. 2nd Century AD. Yellowish-green glass vessel in traditional aryballos form, with spherical body, two trailed handles; the neck, however, is longer than that seen in the characteristic aryballos, although it, too, has a collared rim. The body has fine wheel-cut linear decoration, while bottom is slightly concave. Areas of silvery weathering film. 4-7/8"H, intact/excellent condition. ...click for details

Incredible and unusual shape! From ancient Rome, ca. 3rd-4th Century AD. Pale blue/green glass with concave bottom and short funnel neck; around middle of the body is a row of horizontally-oriented raised pinches, above which is an unusual internal yet raised ring of a darker color, probably formed by the application of a wire or some other pointed tool while the glass was still malleable. 4-1/4"H, intact/excellent condition, save small stable hairline crack on rim, as shown. ...click for details

Pre-Columbian, from ancient Peru, ca. 1438 - 1533 A.D. Canopas were typically carved from solid hard stone with a central hole in their backs, the holes were then filled with coca leaves and animal tallow. These were then thrown into the fields in an offering to the mother god (Pacchamama) to ask for a healthy breeding season and crops. China, southern Sung, 13th century AD. Streaked "Hares fur" with a shinning black glaze showing fine radial rust-colored streaks that resemble the fur of a hare or the markings of a partridge.
