Pre-Dynastic, 3500-3000 BC. Piriform stone weapon with cylindrical drill hole in center. Once attached to a wooden shaft and used as a weapon to strike at an enemy. The "piriform" or round mace head was used throughout Egypt and the Levante, and replaced the disk-type mace during the Naqada II period of Pre-Dynastic Egypt. Custom stand. Mace head itself measures 2-5/8"D, intact/excellent condition.

Made in Mali near the Tenere Desert, but purportedly found in the Faium Valley of Egypt, dating to about 7000 to 5000 BC. Knapped stone implement. Egypt has a very rich Palaeolithic past, dating from the Lower Palaeolithic. The Faiyum has a fundamentally important role to play in developing an understanding of Egyptian prehistory. Fine terracotta ceremonial drinking vessel (rhyton) constructed of cylindrical cup and animal head (in the form of a mouflon, native wild sheep) spout – opening at the animal’s mouth. Entire vessel covered in red slip, now showing great deposits from burial. 6-1/2"H, lower section repaired, else quite excellent.

From ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 550-540 B.C. Done in black figure technique, this pottery wine vessel features a double frieze of ivy leaves between the handles and an alternating black and red tongue pattern band on the outer base. There is a small area of glaze roughness on inside lip and on outer lip (both areas on same side), which is an indication of a burial pattern.

Central Asia, Seljuk Dynasty, ca. 800 - 1000 AD. Solid bronze lion in alert position with his head pointed forward, mouth slightly agape, forepaws outstretched in front of him, hindlegs tucked. A small ridge separates the mane from the back, but note the incised detailing of the mane! The tail rests on the lion’s buttocks. 2-1/4"L (5.7 cm)x 1-3/4"H, intact, surface slightly worn.

Rare example! From ancient Greece, ca. 100 BC - 100 AD. Terracotta seated figure of Attis, consort of Cybele in Phrygian and Greek mythology. His priests were eunuchs, the Galli, as explained by origin myths pertaining to Attis and castration.
