Exceedingly rare to find! From ancient Rome, ca. 1st Century B.C. Crafted of solid bronze, a set of two body scrapers (strigils) used by athletes in antiquity to clean the body. Athletes would apply olive oil to their bodies before competing or exercising to avoid dirt from getting into the pores of the skin, but possibly also to avoid sunburn. Extremely rare form! Pre-Columbian, Panama, ca. 1000 AD. Terracotta pedestaled plate (fruitero) with irregularly-shaped top, depicting a stylized serpent. Polychrome painting in black, orange, cream and plum over an orange-cream slip. 6"D plate diameter x 7"H, repaired from several large fragments with overpainting over breaklines, plus some surface roughness, else very good.

Manga Graecia, Ca 4th century BC, from eastern Italy. Attractively decorated pottery olpe, bulbous-bodied, flat, wide rimmed mouth and high, wide strap handle. Pinkish ground with a painted red-brown band and black rim. From Northern Peru, Chimu, Ca 1200 to 1400 AD. Silver kero used for drinking Chicha (Inca beer) made from hand-hammered sheet silver. Typical funnel-shaped body with very thin rim and narrow foot. 5-7/8"H x 2-1/2" base diameter, intact, save one or two small holes in body and a bit of minor distortion/creasing from age. Still a nice example!
