Named for the enigmatic swimmer figures shown prone around the base, this ancient pottery polychrome bowl is in the Copador style and comes from El Salvador/Honduras, ca 550 to 850 AD. One of the finest Mayan Copador Style bowls we have seen in some time. Ca 550 to 850 AD, coming from the Mayan region of El Salvador/Honduras. Generically called "Copador," this bowl is decorated with repeated scene of seated captives, braided ropes around their necks and down their backs, hair wrapped and flowing behind, with arms outstretched looking almost like they are begging for their lives. An important and quite rare ancient ceremonial dance platform from the Colima region of west Mexico, ca. 100 B.C. to 100 A.D. Comprised of six standing figures in buff terracotta pottery, one a pregnant female, in different poses and gestures, all standing on an integral platform. Ca. 1400 AD. Jet black glazed, terracotta vessel having a near metallic sheen finish. The slightly gadrooned body is reminiscent of a pumpkin-like fruit having a long, slender neck with small, trumpeting rim. At the nape of the body/neck is a small, flat, loop handle with a relief puma head extending and two small paws in low relief at front. Small shard reattached to rim, else intact. A rare type. 9 ¾ inch.

Early Nazca, ca.100 B.C.-200 A.D. Fine pottery example with a highly stylized human face painted in red, dark brown, cream and white with relief, modeled nose. Overall exc. cond., having a very minor stable hairline in base, which was restored over on exterior of base to hide crack. Small flake on upper rim and two small restored rim chips. 7"T. Ca. 800-1500 A.D. Graceful, polychrome-decorated terracotta vessel having a wide central register containing two seated dignitaries with stylized feathered objects in front of each. Stepped upper border, linear border below. Tapered bulbous body having a low pedestal base. Mineral deposits on surface. 10-1/4"T. Vase basically intact, having a few minor areas of inpainting and light rim repair.

Late Cocle, Ca. 800-1200 AD Pair of decorated pottery vessels, painted cream, ground with red and black banded necks. Both having a wide shoulder register containing an abstract whorl geometric pattern. 12-3/4"H & 13-1/4"H. Larger example intact, the other has a rim chip, otherwise intact. Strong mineral deposits and root marks on surface. Nice examples.
