The Apis bull was sacred to Memphis and each time one died it was emballed, mummified and the date of its death recorded on temple walls. 3-1/4"L x 2"H, small tip of left ear missing, else intact/excellent condition. Rare example! From ancient Greece, ca. 100 BC - 100 AD. Terracotta seated figure of Attis, consort of Cybele in Phrygian and Greek mythology. His priests were eunuchs, the Galli, as explained by origin myths pertaining to Attis and castration. Spectacular necklace comprised of 9 ancient Egyptian faience amulets and scaraboids – dating between the 18th and 26th dynasties, ca 1549 to 662 BC. Starting at the top with two abstract Bes amulets followed by two scaraboids, one above a lovely scarab button, the other above a fertility amulet, between which an eye of Horus amulet is wrapped in 18 karat gold, below hangs an amulet of the head of the Apis bull and finally a “holy triad” amulet representing Nephys, Isis and Horus.
