Rare item! Ancient Egyptian Bronze Miniature Sarcophagus, Late Period, ca. 715 B.C. Surmounted by Ichneumon, god of Insects/Wasps. Ichneumon, the tracker, so-called because it hunts out the eggs of the crocodile. Numerous species found in Asia and Africa. The Egyptian species (Herpestes ichneumon), which ranges to Spain and Palestine, is noted for destroying the eggs and young of the crocodile, as well as various snakes and lizards, and hence was considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians. ...click for details

Ancient Egyptian Bronze Figure of Harpocrates, Late to Ptolemaic Periods, ca. 664 to 30 B.C. Solid bronze statuette of the nude child god, Harpokrates, the infant son of Isis and Horus, and a symbol of youth and fertility. Depicted enthroned, he wears the nemes headdress adorned with the Sidelock of Youth and a frontal uraeus, surmounted by a modium of uraei supporting the Hemhemet crown.
