Rare Chavin Jar "Kissing Bug" Form
From northern Peru, cac 900 to 500 BC. Depicting a rather insideous insect called the kissing bug - parasites of the trypanosomatidae family. Called the kissing bug for its tendency to bite around the lips. This "lovely" parasite is responsible for chagas, leishmaniasis and sleeping sickness. Burnished brownware pottery vessel stands 9"H.
