Amlash Pottery Rhyton in Ram Form
From the ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, ca late 2nd millennium BC. Fine terracotta ceremonial drinking vessel (rhyton) constructed of cylindrical cup and animal head (in the form of a mouflon, native wild sheep) spout – opening at the animal’s mouth. Entire vessel covered in red slip, now showing great deposits from burial. 6-1/2"H, lower section repaired, else quite excellent.

Provenance: Ex-Sarkisian Estate, Denver, CO acquired in the 1960s.
