A Rare Gupta Terracotta Staff Finial
From the region that stretched from India thru Northern Pakistan (present-day Indus Valley), ca. 300-500 AD. Solid pottery figural of a bull wearing a crown-like head piece. Integral sleeve was designed to be mounted on a horizontal staff (we’ve inserted a contemporary staff here for presentation purposes). Custom mount. Purportedly found in Warjiriztan in the 1950s. Piece itself measures 5”H x 3”W, intact. Very few examples of these are known to exist.

Provenance: Ex-Sarkisian Estate, Denver, CO acquired in the early 1960s.
