This is Mongolian carved wooden sculpture of a Garuda or Khangard dating to the 19th century. Wonderful use of the wood to make an animated sculpture. The front has considerable wear while the back shows what was originally elaborate painting. There are round holes in the hands which would have had a staff inserted. Measures just over 12 inches or 31cm.
