This is an early 19th century Nepalese Thangka depicting a eight armed, three faced, Ushnishavijaya encased in a stupa. There are two vidyadharas on the upper corners, two attending bodhisattvas, Avalokitesvara and Vajrapani, on either side, and a row of four wrathful deities protecting the four cardinal directions on the base of the stupa. This is a high quality embroidered panel made by the Li of Hainan, China. Part of a three section blanket. Dates to the later Qing Dynasty, 1800's. Some probable restitching. Silk on an Indigo base cotton panel. We also have full sets of these blankets which are as of yet unphotographed. This measures 80 x 16 inches (203 x 40cm)

This is a woman's headdress we purchased in Xia He, Gansu Province in China. The headdress is made from wool with sections of corduroy, silver, Tibetan coins,bits of coral and amber beads. The coral in the center of the silver work is a traditionally dyed coral. The amber may be synthetic. These are worn on special occasions, coming from the back of the head down over the back. Still used today, these pieces are really more used than antique and this piece dates probably back 30 - 50 years. ...click for details

A gilt copper 16th/17th century panel that was used as part of a mandorla. Very animated with mahasidhas, dakinis, dancers and lamas. Thick gilt copper. Mounted on a wooden stand. Measures 17 1/4 x 12 inches (44 x 30cm), with the stand it measures 18 x 14 1/2 x 3 deep (46 x 36 x 8cm).

It depicts pheonix, birds and floral patterns. Measrues 42 x 54 inches (107 x 137cm) with the borders, 28 x 41 inches (71 x 104cm)without.

It also has an indigo died cotton border of a different age than the panels. This piece estimated to be 30 - 40 years old. Some missing embroidery, fading and other flaws typical with age. This is a powerful indigo and white Zhuang wedding blanket from Guangxi China. Flax and cotton base with embroidered cross patterns. Many native repairs, but overall very strong. Measures 39 x 50 1/2 inches (100 x 128cm) including border. Two panels alone measure 28 3/4 x 41 inches (73 x 104cm).

This is an unusual Maonan wedding blanket from Guangxi China. The Maonan are small ethnic minority in Southwest China. These were made on a narrow loom in two panels surrounded by a cotton border. It uses a natural dyed cotton and flax foundation with a silk brocade depicting butterfly like shapes. Some reweaving with analine dyed silk is later, but not new. Approximate age is 80 - 100 years.
