Polychrome Ironstone pitcher by Mayer and Newbold, Staffordshire 1817-1833. Minor glaze flaking and very small chip on rim. More extensive glaze flaking on base, overall good condition for age. Marked "M & N New Opaque", 5.5" high, circa 1820.

Sold 

English Ironstone milk pitcher with polychrome chinoiserie decoration. Marked "Opaque China" with maker's monogram. The term Opaque China was used by several early 19th century makers. A jug with an identical pattern appears in Coysh and Henrywood's "Blue and White Printed Pottery" vol. 1, color plate V with maker's mark of Lockett and Hulme. The monogram on this piece does not appear to be an L and H. I believe it is a J and G, possibly for the potters John and G ...click for details
