A Set of Three Bencharong Lai Nam Thong Covered Jarlets

All decorated with trellis-and-rice-ball motifs in iron red, blue, yellow and green pigments over gold background over gold background.

"Bencharong" is a Thai word, meaning "five colors". It is used to refer to Chinese ceramics made to order for Thai market since the Ayutthaya period in 18th century. Bencharong also refers to the use of five colors in decorating the ceramics even though the color range sometime exceeds five. Later evidences show that Bencharong was also produced in Thailand during The Bangkok period in 19th century.

The decoration of Bencharong varies from flowers to figures of Thai gods and Thai mythical beasts. It is also decorated with stylized Thai patterns of motifs inspired by flowers.

"Lai Nam Thong", meaning "gold wash" refers to a group of Bencharong decorated with gold color.

Smallest size: Diameter 5 C.M. / Height 5.5 C.M.
Medium size: Diameter 6.5 C.M. / Height 6.5 C.M.
Largest size: Diameter 7.5 C.M. / Height 7.5 C.M.
Condition: Minor chips to the ends of the inner feet of the covers of the Biggest and Medium sizes, all three pieces with wears of pigments and gold color mostly to the jarlets. Please refer to the enlargement photos for more details.
