18th Century, Rare Tai Yai Burmese Wooden Buddha
Rare Tai Yai Burmese wooden buddha sitting in Mara Vijaya (calling the earth to witness) posture on a base, with meditative facial expression. Traces of original lacquer and gilding remain in good condition.

Top of the head is a stupa-shaped "flame" or called usnisa, symbol of the realization of Nirvana or indicative of supreme knowledge.

Tai Yai is a group of tribal people living in Burma. It is difficult to find buddha from this ethnic group.

Age: Burma, circa 18th Century
Measurement: Height 40 C.M. / Width 14.3 C.M. (size excluding stand)
Condition: Nice condition overall (some expected degradation due to its age including natural cracks). Please refer to the enlargement photos for more details.
