Offered here are a PAIR of well-painted porcelain bottles. They were made at the Arita kilns during the late 18th or early decades of the 19th century in a style one might call Kutani (due to the colors). The primary palette of the over-glaze enamel decorations is an orange-red, together with green, yellow, blue and magenta. Two of the four sides are painted with the same motif; a standing Geisha and a spray of flowers against a white ground. The shoulders and necks of the bottles are entire ...click for details

$4,750

Offered here is a great work of Japanese folk art. It is a four panel futon cover mounted as a two-panel folding screen. The fabric of the cover is 100% home-spun cotton with a rice paste resist and painted design (tsutsugaki in Japanese) of a large colorful Phoenix (Hoo) landing on a paulownia tree. The multiple colors of the Phoenix are highly decorative and almost amusing in their patterns. Obviously the maker had fun making this piece. I had the screen made in Kyoto nearly 25 years in o ...click for details
